Today we're launching Your Own AI - a free, open-source desktop app that runs AI privately on your own computer.
The conversations people have with AI are becoming some of the most intimate data they produce: health worries, money questions, half-formed ideas, family matters. Almost all of it flows through someone else's servers, under someone else's terms. We think that's exactly backwards - and we built Flowsta to prove that the alternative works.
So we applied the same principle to AI that we applied to identity. Your account lives on your device. Now your AI does too.
Person to person. No one in control but you.
What it is
Your Own AI runs open AI models directly on your machine - download the app, pick a model from the built-in catalog (with guidance on what your hardware can handle), and chat. No account. No telemetry. With an offline model, nothing you type ever leaves your computer, and because the app is open source, that's a claim you can verify rather than a promise you have to trust.
And these aren't bare models. You author your own AIs - each with its personality, appearance, its own memory of your life together, and knowledge you give it. Share them as single-file packs, cryptographically signed so anyone importing one can verify who made it. Eight free characters are waiting on the characters page.
What makes it different
Memory you can read. Your AIs learn who you are - and every fact they hold is visible, editable, and deletable. A shared profile, each AI's own memories, and per-project memory. Nothing hidden.
Documents, with proof. Attach files - scanned paper included, read entirely on your device - and check any answer claim by claim against the exact wording of the source.
Projects: agentic coding in chat. Open a folder and your AI reads files, proposes edits, and runs commands - asking permission for every action, with every step recorded.
Records you can prove. Every conversation is written into a tamper-evident, signed record on your device, built on Holochain - the same foundation under Flowsta. Export any conversation, and optionally sign it with your Flowsta identity so anyone can verify it.
Backed up, recoverable. Connect your Flowsta Vault and everything - conversations, AIs, memories - backs up automatically and restores on a new machine.
An engine for other apps. The app serves a standard endpoint that other tools and agent frameworks can use - so your AIs, memory and records included, can power your editor or your scripts, on your computer or across your own network.
Online, only if you ask
Frontier models and web search are available with an optional paid plan, through a relay that strips your identity and never stores or logs your messages. It's never required and never the default - the mode name is the consent, and "Auto - Offline Only" never touches the internet. Cancel anytime; everything local is free forever and keeps working exactly as before.
